Promoting Better Access

Intensive Support Mental Health Advocacy strives to improve access to vital resources and support for people facing mental health challenges. Our advocates work to create an empathetic and inclusive environment where individuals feel safe and supported while seeking the care they deserve.

Addressing Challenges Faced by People with Mental Health Issues

Those dealing with mental health challenges often endure a range of difficulties beyond their condition, such as:

  • Trouble with support services
  • Bullying, physical violence, or harassment
  • Family issues (including lack of understanding)
  • Stigma, prejudice, and discrimination
  • Social isolation
  • Trouble with NDIS and health services
  • Problems with tribunal and guardianship
  • Unfair treatment by family, friends, co-workers, or others
  • Fewer opportunities for work, school, or social activities
  • Difficulty finding housing and dealing with housing services
  • Challenges in dealing with police and justice systems

Lived Experience and Advocacy

Intensive Support Mental Health Advocacy is operated by individuals who have firsthand experience with mental health challenges. Our advocates bring real-life knowledge of mental illness, along with extensive experience in supporting individuals in the community. They excel at communicating and standing up for the rights of people facing these challenges.

Who We Help

While our advocacy service is primarily available to people with NDIS plans, we do our best to assist anyone in need. We offer individual advocacy to people dealing with issues such as:

  • Problems with government agencies (including NDIS) and support services
  • Discrimination and unfair treatment

How We Help

At Intensive Support, we assist people in several ways:

  • Helping individuals get what they are entitled to
  • Supporting people to understand and protect their rights
  • Helping individuals express their point of view
  • Ensuring people receive the services they need

Our advocates listen closely to each person’s story, speak on their behalf, and empower them to speak up for themselves. We attend appointments, assist with drafting emails or letters, and provide personalized support.
